Ragged Claws : A Typical Torpe Conversation

The most frustrating conversation in the world is one where you have two people talking at, not to each other. Two people so jumpy and paranoid about every word that comes out that they end up not making sense.

The fun part is decoding the incoherent babble strung together by awkward pauses and loooong moments of silence.

A Typical Torpe Conversation

Characters:
N: Narrator
Girl
House Plant
TG: Torpe Guy
Dog
Ballpen

N: To quote a cheesy line from a cheesy song, we fall in and out of love just like a play, struggling for words I still don't know what to say; Ooops, Ric Segretto just took over. Any moment now the Vid-Ok people will come and take me away

Scene: Guy is standing outside girl's door.

Girl: Hi, pasok ka. Anong ginagawa mo dito?
TG: (panic-stricken look) Wala lang.
House Plant: Duh, sabihin mo na lang kasi.
Girl: Um, kasi medyo out of the way siya for you. You live in Katipunan, right now you are on UP campus dirt. Hehe.
Dog: Fishing!
TG: (blank look) Uh...
Girl: Just kidding, what a pleasant surprise. Upo ka.
TG: Naiwan ko ballpen ko sa'yo.
Dog: Arf!
Girl: Ah, ganun ba? Ay, oo nga pala. Sorry, give me a sec, I'll just get it from my room.
TG: Okay, thanks.
Girl: Sandali lang. (exits)

After a few minutes...
Girl: Here you go. Sorry, I forgot. Thanks ha.
TG: (accepts the pen, drops it clumsily) Oooops. Thanks. Sorry ha, isa lang kasi ballpen ko, wala ng iba.
Ballpen: Pucha, ang corny mo!
Girl: Aba, at loyal ka sa ballpen mo. Maganda 'yan. Commendable. You will go far in life.
TG: Ha, e, oo nga. Thanks. (fidgets in his seat) Ah... musta nga pala final exams mo? Mahirap ba?
Girl: Di pa nagsisimula. Next week pa finals week.
TG: (silence) Ah, ganun ba? .. Anong ginagawa mo ngayon?
Dog: Inaamag sa kakahintay sa'yo.
Girl: Wala naman. Ikaw, anong ginagawa mo kanina bago ka pumunta?
TG: Wala naman. (coughs)
House Plant: Inaamag sa kakahintay sa'yo.
Girl: Anong gagawin mo this sembreak?
TG: Kain, tulog, labas paminsan-minsan. Ikaw, anong gagawin mo this sembreak?
Girl: Ganun din. Kain, tulog, labas paminsan-minsan.
TG: Sino kasama mo?
Girl: Kumain?
Dog: ARF!
TG: Lahat.
Girl: Ikaw, sino kasama mo?
TG: Ha?
Dog: ARF!

After twenty minutes...
TG: Anong oras na nga pala?
Girl: 7:30 pm.
TG: Kumain ka na?
Girl: Hindi pa nga e. Ikaw, kumain ka na ba?
TG: Hindi pa.
Girl: Gusto mo sabay na lang tayo?
TG: Naiwan kong nakasaksak yung plancha sa bahay.
Girl: Ha? (silence) Baka masunog bahay niyo. Sige, uwi ka na.
TG: Uwi na ko? Pinapauwi mo na ako?
Girl: Teka, akala ko ba naiwan mo yung plancha niyong nakasaksak?
TG: Alis na ko.
Girl: Alis ka na?
TG: Oo, tatanggalin ko lang yung plancha sa saksakan. Sige, pasensya ka na, bye.
Girl: Bye. (TG exits)
Dog: Bye.
House Plant: Bye.
Ballpen: Bye.

After ten minutes.
Where they are having their separate dinners...
TG: (walking towards KFC) Hi, pumunta ako kasi gusto kitang makita't makausap. Wala akong excuse. Gusto ko lang. Good luck sa finals mo. Gusto mo bang magdinner ng sabay? Gusto mo bang lumabas tayo this sembreak?
Girl: (in McDonald's Philcoa) Hi, napadaan ka. Gusto kitang makita't makausap, buti na lang at pumunta ka. Sana sinabihan mo ako na pupunta ka para nakapag-prepare ako. But I like surprises. Thank you at nagtanong ka tungkol sa finals ko. Tense na nga ako't worried dahil madami akong exams. Dapat hindi mo iniwang nakasaksak yung plancha niyo sa bahay. Sana magkasama tayong mag-dinner. Ang tanga-tanga mo.
TG/Girl: Nakakapagod maghintay!

N: Naiwan na naman ni torpe guy yung ballpen niya.
